Hal Roberts LibraryWhether you’re a word-hungry bookworm or occasional reader, this spacious trove of literary gems houses fascinating substance to feed your mind and enrich your life. The shelves are stacked with nearly 10,000 English-language books, periodicals and a growing assortment of audio books, making the Library one of the most extensive collections catering to foreigners in Tokyo.
A cozy reading area, furnished patio and engagement events like Meet the Author nights, and a monthly book group add appeal to this inviting haven of knowledge.
Designed for babies to 12 year olds, the glass-enclosed area boasts shelves of newly published children's stories, plus lots of beloved old favorites. There is a play area for budding bookworms and their parents to enjoy new discoveries and take part in a colorful series of programs, including regular story times, and holiday happenings.

Daily: 9 am–8 pm
- Up to 10 books, 3 audiobooks and 3 magazines may be checked out at a time per Membership card
- Borrowing period for all items is 14 days
- Overdue fines are ¥50 per day for adult/young adult items and ¥30 per day for children's items [Prices do not include 8 percent consumption tax]
- Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult
Giveaway Book Corner
If you're looking to expand your home book collection, be sure to browse the Library's shelves of giveaway books, located near the entrance. Unfortunately the Library is not able to accept book donations at this time.
Magazines & Newspapers
Get your dose of daily news, stock quotes or celebrity gossip from the selection of English-language newspapers (The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, The Japan Times, The New York Times, with the Sunday edition arriving on Thursday of the following week, The Nikkei Weekly and Stars and Stripes) and around 120 magazines.

Churning through chapters on the go is a breeze with a selection of more than 550 audiobooks on CD. Simply upload titles to your computer, transfer them to a portable audio player and take them with you anywhere.
Requests & Reservations
Reserve a title by e-mailing or phoning the Library staff, and it will be set aside for you as soon as it is available. Members can also request new titles anytime. With about 100 books added to its collection each month, the Library makes considerable efforts to accommodate all requests and recommendations.
With high-speed, Club-wide access to the Internet, the Library is the perfect spot to get some work done on your laptop.
