2nd Annual Tokyo American Club's English Essay Contest

The Tokyo American Club celebrates its strong relationship between Japan and the United States of America through its 2nd Annual English Essay Contest for third year senior high school students in Tokyo.

The contest gives young Japanese students the opportunity to express their thoughts on American culture and to write about one aspect of American culture that has affected them. This could be about any topic such as music, sports, food or movies.

The two top winners will each receive a grand prize of 500,000 yen payable to the university to which they are accepted. In addition, all five winners will receive prizes and be invited to an awards ceremony at the Tokyo American Club with their family. This year’s award ceremony will be held at the Club on Culture Day on Saturday, November 3. The school that the two winning students come from will also receive a trophy in recognition. Those who were not selected as one of the top five winners will still receive a prize for their participation and effort.

Applications for 2008 are now open. The deadline for submission is Friday 3rd October at 5pm.

第2回東京アメリカンクラブ英語エッセイコンテスト

東京アメリカンクラブは、日本と米国の強い絆を称え、都内の高校3年生を対象とした第２回英語エッセイコンテストを開催いたします。

このコンテストでは、日本の若い学生の方々にアメリカ文化への思いを表現し、影響を受けたアメリカ文化の一側面についてエッセイを書いていただきます。例えば、音楽、スポーツ、食べもの、映画がテーマとなります。

上位２名の受賞者には、受賞者が進学した大学への奨学金として各々５０万円が贈呈されます。さらに上位５名の全受賞者にも賞品を贈呈し、また東京アメリカンクラブで行われる授賞式にご家族でご招待いたします。今年の授賞式は１１月３日土曜日、文化の日当クラブにて開催されます。上位２名の生徒の方々が在籍する高校にはその功績を認め、トロフィーを授与いたします。上位５名に選出されなかった方々にも参加賞として賞品を贈呈させて頂きます。

2008年の応募を現在受付中です。応募書類の提出期限は10月3日金曜日午後5時となっております。

For those Members who were not able to attend February’s Town Hall Meeting, excerpts from the evening’s presentations, which included a Redevelopment Project update, summary and an overview of the new Club at Azabudai by architects from Pelli Clarke Pelli, can now be downloaded from the Membership Directory section of the Club Web site.

Changes were made to the Articles of Association after publication of the 2008 Membership Handbook & Directory. Please refer to the Membership Directory section.

If you can’t make it to the Club for your favorite comfort food, why not have it delivered? TAC Express, the Club’s food delivery service, has expanded its delivery area to include Shinagawa Ward, Minato Ward and Hiroo. Place your order by simply calling the TAC Express hotline at 03-5449-9292 by 10:30 a.m. for lunch or 6:30 p.m. for dinner.
