For 18 years, Sayaka Murata worked part time in a convenience store.
In 2016, her 10th novel, Convenience Store Woman, became an international literary sensation.
On May 22, Murata and her English translator Ginny Tapley Takemori visit the Club for a star-studded Meet the Author event.
Since publishing her breakout novel three years ago, Murata’s terse prose and incisive eye for the incongruities of society have rekindled an international interest in Japanese literature not unlike the one sparked by Haruki Murakami years ago.
Currently at work translating Murata’s newest novel, Earthlings, Takemori joins the event and adds insight into the localization process.
