Tokyo’s Contemporary Art: Kawamura Museum

What will I learn in this class?
Rembrandt, Monet, Picasso, Rothko–all artists whose work is displayed not in Paris, New York or London but a stone’s throw away in Sakura, Chiba. Visit the Kawamura Memorial DIC Muesum of Art for a guided tour of the very best of the 20th century’s modern art as well as a stunning collection of living artists from Japan and abroad.

What is the goal of this class?
Beginners to modern art take their first steps down the road to sincere appreciation while more experienced students deepen their understanding of the masters’ techniques and intentions and contexts in which they worked.

Who teaches this class?
Noriko Kashiwagi is a certified art appraiser with degrees from Sophia University and New York University and experience leading tours for The Phillips Collection in Washington DC and the Noguchi Museum outside Manhattan. Kashiwagi also organizes exhibitions of emerging artists for the ANA Intercontinental Hotel in Akasaka.
