Tastes of Taiwan: Chive Dumplings & Braised Pork Bowl

Traditional dishes from the island nation.

What will I learn in this class?
Familiarize yourself with the aromas and sample the flavors of traditional Taiwanese cuisine.

Students will learn how to prepare chive dumplings from scratch and fill them with eggs, shrimp and harusame noodles.

Also, participants will learn the techniques behind traditional Taiwanese lu rou fan braised pork over rice–a delicacy the world over (students may substitute chicken for pork by notifying the instructor in advance).

All recipes will be provided to participants. Please inform the instructor of any dietary restrictions.

Who teaches this class?
Yoko Yanagisawa is a native of Taiwan who started cooking in her parents’ traditional restaurant in middle school.
She has attended cooking schools in Japan and Taiwan and also took lessons from private instructors.
Yanagisawa served as chairperson for the Chinese booth for two years at Nishimachi International School’s annual food fair.
