Hiking Mount Takao

Travel by bus to the 599-meter-high spiritual destination in western Tokyo.

Ride a lift halfway up Mount Takao, famous for its New Year’s sunrise crowds, and then hike to the summit where participants can commune with nature and take in panoramic views of Mount Fuji and Tanzawa.

During the leisurely descent visit the temple of Yakuo-in, a center of Buddhist worship for more than 1,000 years.

There participants will enjoy an authentic Buddhist vegetarian lunch followed by a green tea tasting.

Visitors also have the opportunity to watch 40 Japanese macaques frolic at the monkey park.

Cost includes transportation, lunch, chair lift, monkey park admission fee and tea ceremony.

The meal at Yakuo-in does include bonito flakes and fish broth (no alternative options available).
