Gallery Reception: Lin Wei

Lin Wei’s art straddles cultures.

Born and raised in Taipei among classically Chinese artistic principles, her move to Tokyo in 2010 infused her aesthetics with a new vibrancy.

"Although I come across various cultural uncertainties in Japan," admits Wei, "cross-cultural stimulus is a kind of nourishment."

Inspired by Japan’s seasonal consciousness, Wei’s subjects’ kimono are coded in the traditional colors of spring, summer and the spaces in between. She specializes in portraiture, but her Club exhibition, which runs through July 8, proves that variety can only enhance her art.
