Gallery Reception: Tomoyasu Katsuta

On the outskirts of the Tokyo metropolis, Tomoyasu Katsuta’s backyard kiln rages with flames topping several thousand degrees.

The end result: Katsuta’s ceramic pieces of such elegance one can hardly believe they were birthed in fire.

Through October 14, the Tokyo native’s stately teacups and vases, alongside works of more abstract yet equally refined nature, beckon all aficionados of Japanese aesthetics.
