Culture Connections

One in four people suffers from a mental health problem, according to the World Health Organization.

But not everyone seeks help.

Those in search of guidance or an empathetic ear in Japan can contact TELL, a provider of multilingual counseling and support services.

Founded in 1973, the nonprofit organization runs a phone and online chat service, an in-person clinic and outreach programs.

Connections, which has been supporting TELL for a number of years, donated ¥800,000 to the NPO last year.

At June’s Culture Connections, TELL’s Cole Garrett (pictured) will discuss the crucial work of the organization and the rising use of its services by youth before offering tips on recognizing and managing stress and poor mental health.

Members interested in volunteering with TELL will have a chance to ask questions and learn more.

  • Connections members: free
  • Non-Connections members & guests: ¥1,000 (register at the events office)
