First Friday: South African Shebeen

Embrace the vibrancy of South African culture at this month's First Friday.

With the country’s National Heritage Day on September 24, this unique evening of music, mouthwatering cuisine and warm hospitality pays homage to South Africa’s once-illicit shebeen speakeasies.

A spectacular array of local dishes includes braai barbecued classics, such as lamb and apricot skewers, pork and fennel sausages and spicy chorizo, grilled on American Bar & Grill’s terrace by Sizwe Mgxanga, South African Embassy chef.

Pair these savory delights with the fruits of South Africa’s world-famous vineyards.

Zambia-born Prisca Molotsi will also be serenading the night away with jazz and blues tunes. Since her debut in 1988, Molotsi has sung for former presidents of Zambia and at hotels, such as the Nagoya Hilton and the Mulberry Hotel.

And don’t miss out on the chance to win fantastic raffle prizes, including enough Singapore Airlines miles for a business class return ticket from Japan to South Africa or Los Angeles and exquisite South African wines from the Western Cape.

A lively bash infused with the Rainbow Nation’s dazzling character awaits. Reserve your spot today. Nihonbashi Club Members welcome.

While moms and dads let their hair down, kids can kick back at Movie Night.
