Craft your very own traditional paper-and-wood andon lantern.
What will I learn in this class?
Made from nothing but washi paper, bamboo, wood or iron and light, andon lanterns represent classical Japanese aesthetics of simplicity and elegance.
In this class, follow a master craftsman as you create your own 20-centimeter-tall andon lantern. Students will choose their own washi paper with designs ranging from minimalist to decorative and apply it to a pre-built wooden frame for a stunning accent piece they can place in their homes.
Who teaches this class?
Masanori Kizaki is the CEO of Miyako Andon, a family-owned, boutique andon workshop founded in 1880. After training as a lightning craftsman, Kizaki became the latest family scion to run the business in 2017.
