Hone your body and mind as you practice this traditional Japanese martial art.


What will the students learn in this class?
In this beginner class, you’ll have the chance to purchase a personalized kendogi jacket and hakama and learn the essentials of handling a shinai wooden sword. The class focuses on fundamental techniques and the deeper values of kendo, including proper conduct and the concept of zanshin, or relaxed alertness.

 

What are the benefits of this class?
Kendo trains the body while refining the spirit. Through treating their opponents with respect and cultivating serenity through meditation, students grow holistically as they develop technique.

Who will teach this class?

Hinano Tominaga, world champion at the 2018 World Kendo Championships, has also competed in the All-Japan Women’s Kendo Championship four times and won two national championships during her university years. Hinano has also experienced in teaching Kendo in South Africa, Indonesia, Australia (Melbourne), and Hong Kong. Currently, she devotes her time to teaching kendo across Japan while continuing to compete.

Kendo Equipment

  1. Kendogi and hakama. For beginners, comfortable and movement-friendly clothing is acceptable. Name embroidering in kanji on kendogi and hakama is optional and available at an additional cost of 38,000 yen. The amount covers a set of Dogi and Hakama.
  2. A shinai or wooden sword is mandatory, and name engraving is available at an additional cost of 9,000 yen,
