Mizuhiki Basics: The Art of Ichimatsu

In this hands-on, heart-centered workshop, you’ll learn how to tie one of the basic mizuhiki knots, the simple yet elegant ichimatsu.

Along the way, you’ll explore mizuhiki’s rich history, discover its techniques and traditions, and uncover its cultural significance in Japan. Using simple tools, you’ll create a pair of earrings made with the ichimatsu knot that you can bring home. A beautiful blend of creativity, connection, and cultural heritage awaits.

Instructor
Nori Ogata discovered mizuhiki in 2017 and was immediately drawn to its elegance and rich history. As she studied the knots and their symbolism, her appreciation grew into a passion. In 2024, she began teaching in order to share the joy this traditional Japanese art brings. Her workshops offer a space to slow down, create with intention, and connect with a timeless tradition that speaks to both the heart and the hands.
