Bodypump

Burn calories, tone muscles and build stamina with this total-body workout from the world-famous Les Mills stable of fitness classes.

What will I learn in this class?
Using a barbell with light to moderate weights, participants work through a series of fat-busting reps (called "tracks") to upbeat music. Learn how to lift weights safely and correctly while performing such exercises as squats, dead lifts, lunges and bicep curls. Press-ups, crunches and chest presses often make it into the workout as well. Participants learn the power of strength training while building muscle session by session.

What are the benefits of this class?
Bodypump is a highly effective form of exercise that can have greater benefits for the body than a longer cardio workout. Not only does Bodypump burn fat, it helps produce lean, toned muscle while strengthening the legs, chest, abdominals, back and shoulders. In turn, this can relieve muscle ache and stiffness. There is also evidence that Bodypump's high-repetition, low-load training can increase bone density and reduce the risk of osteoporosis.

Who will teach this class?
Mio Josephine Yamashita (pictured) is a Les Mills-qualified Bodypump instructor, Nesta-accredited functional training specialist, Spinning-certified level-1 instructor and Spin Power instructor, Adidas-accredited gym and run instructor and a registered teacher of yoga. She holds a degree in sports science from Juntendo University, where she was a sprinter on the track and field team. Yamashita also teaches Spin Blast each Monday evening and Sunday morning.
