Shakuhachi Concert

The Winter Garden hosts a free concert with the sounds of classical Japan at this August evening event.

Kick back and take in the music of Masaki Nakamura (pictured) on the shakuhachi flute, accompanied by talented pianist Joji Nakajima.

The son of a Buddhist monk, Nakamura chose music over temple life and has devoted himself to the centuries-old, bamboo instrument since the age of 17.

Since graduating from Tokyo University of the Arts, he has won numerous music awards and has wowed audiences around Japan and abroad, including in Turkey, Algeria, China and the United States.

While used for Zen Buddhist meditation, the shakuhachi has appeared in a diverse range of recordings, from pop and classical to jazz and Japanese folk music.

Escape the humidity for a calming evening of fine music and delicious eats from the Winter Garden menu.
