Famous worldwide as a mecca of rustic pottery, the picturesque town of Mashiko boasts much more than exquisite ceramics.
Nestled in the mountains of Tochigi Prefecture, the area is home to producers and artisans in an array of disciplines.
With the Frederick Harris Gallery hosting an exhibition of the works of celebrated potters Tomoo Hamada and Fujiya Sakuma (whose grandfathers established Mashiko as a center of folk art ceramics) from September 28, this one-day market will showcase Mashiko’s other specialty goods.
Grab your shopping bag and prepare to stock up on fresh fruit, vegetables, honey, jam, coffee, juice, senbei crackers and more. The sale will also include locally produced bags, T-shirts and towels.
What’s more, each Member who makes a purchase at the market will be entered into a lucky draw for a chance to win a fantastic Mashiko prize:
