Trail Running Clinic

Get set for an invigorating run in the blooming wilds of Oku Musashi in western Saitama Prefecture.

Led by experienced ultradistance runner and Club Library manager Drew Damron, this 18-kilometer run will include around 1,200 meters of elevation gain and is targeted at intermediate-level runners keen to swap sidewalks for mountain trails.

This half-day run is a chance to take in Japan’s mountainous terrain in all its spring glory, as well as cultural spots like Nenogongen Temple and the bamboo forest of Takedera Temple.

And what better way to wrap up the day than with a soak in the cooling waters of the Iruma River or the steaming hot-spring baths of the village-run Sawarabi no Yu?

While no trail running experience is needed, participants should be able to comfortably finish a 10-kilometer road race.

Damron, who has advanced CPR certification from the Tokyo Fire Department, will be assisted by the Fitness Center’s Alec Gonzalez.
