A third-place finisher in the Asian division of the Chopin International Piano Competition, Kanemasu also performed well in the prestigious Kitamoto and Elena Richter competitions.
Komatsu, who took up the flute at the age of 10 (five years after first taking piano lessons), has finished in the top four in a number of music competitions in Japan. She has taken the flute master classes of German soloist and chamber musician Renate Greiss-Armin.
