Formed in 1981, Kodo is renowned for its powerful performances, often featuring toned, loinclothed and headbanded drummers.
The group is based on Sado Island, off the coast of Niigata Prefecture, and only one or two aspiring members pass the annual auditions for a chance to embark on a two-year apprenticeship.
