Adult Aikido: Wednesday

Learn the culture and techniques of a modern Japanese martial art in a fun environment.

Aikido is a Japanese martial art that emphasizes using an opponent's energy to neutralize attacks without relying on strength. It builds physical fitness, sharpens mental focus, and encourages a calm, centered mindset. The practice also offers a supportive community where students often form lasting friendships. Open to anyone aged 15 and older—no prior experience needed.

What will I learn in this class?
Aikido has no competition; students train with partners rather than opponents. The focus is on effective self-defense while minimizing harm to others. This approach fosters calmness and resilience, promoting confidence and composure both on the mat and in daily life.

What are the benefits of this class?
Classes are designed to be both enjoyable and structured, ensuring a safe space for learning. Students build coordination, agility, and self-assurance through consistent practice of Aikido’s fundamentals.

Who will teach this class?
Paul Neuman (pictured), a sixth-degree black belt and chief instructor of Pacific Aikido, has taught aikido since 1991 and at the Club since 1999. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Neuman and his team bring decades of experience teaching both children and adults. As part of Pacific Aikido, the Club's aikido group is a registered dojo of the Aikikai Foundation-Aikido World Headquarters.
