Gallery Exhibition: Masanori Ito

Discover the innovative work of a provocative artist at the Frederick Harris Gallery.

Born in Hokkaido, Ito has made a name for himself in Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture, by breathing new life into discarded objects.

“I started creating my art because I wanted to create a stir at a time when many old things in Japan are being thrown away,” shares Ito.

Creating pieces made with acrylic as well as natural materials like wood and lacquer, he explores the themes of chaos and harmony.

From RawRow in Korea to London Craft Week 2023, his exhibitions express a unique appreciation for Japanese aesthetics, celebrating their enduring beauty and adding a modern touch.

Artworks are available for purchase through Member Services.

Moment I realized I wanted to become an artist.
It wasn’t clear when I decided to become an artist, but my efforts to preserve old objects led to the creation of artworks.

What I would tell my 20-year-old self.
Keep going.

My perfect creative environment.
Being surrounded by old Japanese objects.

Artist, living or dead, I’d most like to share a meal with.
Andy Warhol.
